The much-awaited YRF Spy Universe film Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, has officially received its censor certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Ahead of its theatrical release, the film underwent a handful of modifications, including edits to violent sequences and the removal of a foul word.
According to the latest developments, the CBFC has granted Alpha a U/A 16+ certificate, clearing the action-packed espionage thriller for theatrical release after recommending a limited number of changes.
CBFC Orders Changes to Violent Scenes in ‘Alpha’
The CBFC’s Examining Committee reportedly suggested only minor modifications to the film, indicating that the makers largely retained their original vision.
Among the most notable changes were edits to certain violent sequences. Reports suggest that some visuals in the first half of the film were reduced and replaced with alternative shots. While specific details regarding these scenes have not been disclosed, similar modifications were reportedly implemented at multiple points during the film.
In the second half, the certification board instructed the makers to reduce the impact of scenes featuring multiple stabbing visuals and replace them with alternative footage. These changes appear to align with the CBFC’s guidelines regarding the depiction of graphic violence in mainstream cinema.
Additionally, a foul word used in the first half of the movie was reportedly removed.

Apart from the edits related to violence and language, the CBFC also directed the makers to make several technical and procedural modifications.
The board reportedly requested a revised disclaimer at the beginning of the film. Furthermore, subtitles were added for all songs featured in Alpha, ensuring broader accessibility for audiences.
The production house, Yash Raj Films (YRF), was also instructed to include the opening credits and end scrolls in the applied certification language, which is Hindi.
As per regulatory requirements, anti-alcohol static warnings were mandated during all scenes depicting alcohol consumption. Additionally, the makers were required to submit parental consent documentation for the child artist appearing in the film.
‘Alpha’ Runtime Revealed After Certification
Following the completion of these modifications, Alpha officially received its censor certificate on June 29.
The film’s total runtime has been confirmed at 140 minutes and 48 seconds, translating to 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 48 seconds. According to reports, the first half runs for 1 hour, 13 minutes, and 32 seconds, while the second half has a duration of 1 hour, 7 minutes, and 16 seconds.
The lengthy runtime suggests that audiences can expect an expansive narrative packed with action, espionage, emotional drama, and high-stakes storytelling.
