Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Against Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat Renovation, Clears Way for Expansion

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has received a major legal relief after the Supreme Court of India dismissed a petition challenging the approvals granted for the renovation and expansion of Mannat, his iconic sea-facing residence in Mumbai’s Bandra.

The ruling brings clarity to the long-running legal dispute surrounding the renovation project and allows the work to move forward, subject to compliance with applicable laws.

Supreme Court Upholds Renovation Approvals

According to reports, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a petition filed by a Mumbai resident questioning the statutory and environmental approvals granted for the renovation of Mannat.

During the hearing, the bench observed that homeowners have the right to renovate or modify their properties, provided they comply with the law and obtain the required permissions.

The court also emphasized that the matter should be viewed purely from a legal perspective and that a person’s celebrity status should not influence judicial proceedings.

Petitioner Raised Environmental Concerns

The petitioner argued that the renovation project required approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, claiming that projects exceeding ₹5 crore must receive environmental clearance.

The plea further alleged that environmental regulations had not been fully followed during the approval process.

However, the Supreme Court declined the request to send the matter back to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for reconsideration.

National Green Tribunal Had Already Cleared the Project

This is not the first legal challenge involving Mannat’s renovation.

Earlier, the National Green Tribunal dismissed a separate appeal challenging the environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) approvals issued for the project. The tribunal concluded that the renovation and expansion complied with the applicable environmental regulations.

The appeal had questioned the clearance granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority, but authorities associated with the project maintained that all necessary approvals had been secured in accordance with the law.

Expansion Plan Includes Additional Floors

The controversy centers on renovation plans proposed by Gauri Khan, which include adding two extra floors to Mannat’s six-storey annex building.

With the Supreme Court declining to interfere, the expansion project is expected to proceed, subject to compliance with all applicable regulations and approvals.

A Significant Legal Victory for Shah Rukh Khan

The Supreme Court’s decision marks an important legal milestone for Shah Rukh Khan and his family, bringing an end to the latest challenge against one of Mumbai’s most famous celebrity residences.

While Mannat continues to attract fans from across India and around the world, the court’s ruling reinforces that property owners are entitled to renovate their homes within the framework of existing laws.

The decision also closes another chapter in the legal proceedings surrounding the high-profile renovation project, allowing work on the expansion to move ahead. The source of this news is From Bollywood Hungama.
